WERRY, Arthur B. [1863-1955]
Arthur B. Werry ---- A Lifelong resident of the district, Arthur B. Werry, passed away suddenly at the family residence, RR 2, Bowmanville, on Thursday, September 29, in his 93rd year. A son of the late Benjamin Werry and Lois Davis, the deceased was born at Clarke Union on January 13, 1863. As a young man he lived in the Bowmanville vicinity and attend Bowmanville High school. A farmer all his life, Mr. Werry had lived and farmed on the property where he died for 70 years. He was an active member of Ebenezer United Church, serving for many years as an elder of the church and as a teacher in the Sunday School. Predeceased by his wife, the former Mary A. Oke, in May 1952, he leaves to mourn his passing two daughters, Mrs. Russell Bragg (Lois) who lives east of Bowmanville, and Mrs. Melburn Terry, Westmorland Ave. Oshawa and one son, Elton Werry, on the homestead. Also surviving is a brother, Wesley George Werry, who lives north of Bowmanville. The remains are resting at the Northcutt and Smith Funeral Chapel, Bowmanville, where the funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 1 Rev. Mr. Somerville, pastor of Ebenezer United Church, will conduct the service. Interment will be in the family plot in Bethesda Cemetery
McLaughlin, Charlotte (Lottie) WERRY [1878-1961]

MRS. CHARLOTTE LOTTIE E. WERRY - Serious ill for the past five months, Mrs. Charlotte (Lottie) Elizabeth Werry, formerly of 117 Colborne street east, Oshawa, died in Toronto, Monday. Mar. 27. Born in Tyrone, Sept. 25, 1876, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William McLaughlin. She was married in Tyrone, Dec 5, 1900. Mrs. Werry was a resident of Oshawa for the past 38 years, coming here from Tyrone. She was a member of King Street United Church and a life member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union. Mrs. Werry was predeceased by her husband, the late Milton J. Werry, Sept. 12, 1953. She is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. Walter Murray (Irene) of Toronto and Mrs. Philip Turner (Hazel) of Strathroy. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Harvey Cook, (Zillah) of Cooksville and Miss Florence McLaughlin of Toronto and one brother, Douglas of Oshawa. Five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive. The remains are at the Armstrong Funeral Home for memorial service in the Chapel, Thursday, Mar. 30, at 2pm. Internment will follow in Bethesda /Cemetery. Rev. M.A. Bury, minister of King Street United Church will conduct the services. Friends are asked not to call at the funeral home before Wednesday.

Resting at the Armstrong Funeral Home, Oshawa, with memorial services in the Chapel on Thursday, March 30 at 2pm. Internment Bethesda Cemetery.

EDNA IRENE MURRAY - The death occurred suddenly at Wellesley Hospital, Toronto, on Saturday, December 15th, 1979, of Edna Irene Murray. Mrs. Murray was the wife of the late Walter C. Murray of Toronto and daughter of the late Milton James and Lottie Elizabeth Werry formerly of Colborne Street East, Oshawa. She was a sister of the late Marie, (Mrs. H. McConnell ) and is survived by a sister, Hazel, (Mrs. H.T. Hoar), also by nieces Carol, Mrs. R.L. Hunter) of Strathroy, Isobel, (Mrs. M. Campbell) of Toronto, and by her nephews Michael Turner of Komoka, Paul Turner and Ray McConnell both of Toronto, eight grand-nieces and nephews. Mrs. Murray lived most of her life in Toronto and was a long standing member of St. Lukes United Church. She was also keenly interested in the work if the W.C.T.U., the Durham Club and the Salvation Army. The funeral service took place at the Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home, Sherbourne Street. Pallbearers were Ray McConnell, Ronald and Ray Ashton, Michael and Paul Turner and Malcolm Campbell. Mrs. Murray died in peace with her Lord. Interment Park Lawn Cemetery.

SUTTON LADY DIES SUDDENLY - In ill health for some months at her home on High Street, Sutton, a well-liked townslady, Mrs. Hamilton McConnell passed away suddenly on Monday, July 10th, from the after-effects of an operation she had undergone at Sutton Private Hospital on Friday last. The late Mrs. McConnell had been resident here since the family move when her husband was on the engineering staff of the Toronto and /York Roads Commission. Mr. McConnell is now overseas as a sergeant with an R.C.O.C. unit in England. During the years of her residence in Sutton she had earned the respect of all by her earnest church and organization work with St. Andrews Presbyterian congregations. She had as well taken an active part in such work as the Sutton branch of Navy League; the Upper Canada Bible Society and several of the church's associations as well as singing in the church choir. The two McConnell children, Isabel and Ray, both ended their past year in school with honors, Isabel getting the High School entrance and Ray to start his Grade 8 work. Mrs. McConnell was born Zillah Marie Werry, second daughter if Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Werry of Oshawa. Her birthplace was at Tyrone, Ont., where she spent her early years. In he early life she was active in church and Sunday School work of Tyrone Methodist Church and was a singer with the choir. Prior to her marriage, Mrs. McConnell was employed on the staff of Simpson's office in Oshawa. Before coming to Sutton the McConnell family resided in Toronto. In Sutton she was very highly regarded as a tireless worker in Red Cross, both work and in all its endeavors; in handling the arduous job of collecting for the Navy League and Bible Society. In every work she gave of her best and fully earned the high respect shown by the hundreds who called, following her untimely death at the age of only 41 years. Married in 1929, she is survived by her husband and two children, both her parents in Oshawa; two sisters, Mrs. W.C. Murray and Mrs. P.D. Turner both of Toronto. The funeral service was held Wednesday, Jul 12, at her late home on High street, by Rev. K.J. Mathews, of St. Andrew's who expressed comfort and cheer to the relatives, neighbors and friends.

John H. Living, age 81 years -- At Lakeridge Health Bowmanville on September 14,2002. Beloved husband of Irla. Dear father of Janet Harness ( Doug), Stephen Living & Ellen Living. Predeceased by infant Kevin. Loving grandpa to Troy Harness ( Anna), Melissa Davey (Andrew), Oner Brown & Eric Living. Great grandpa of Abigall, Emily, Thea Dora Harness, Joshua, Justin and Tyler Brown. Visitation will take place at the Northcutt Elliott Funeral Home 53 Division St. N. Bowmanville 2-4 & 7 - 9 p.m. Monday. Funeral service will be held in our Chapel 11 a.m. Tuesday. Interment Bowmanville Cemetery. Memorial donations made to The Kidney Foundation or Bowmanville Memorial Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
