emigrated from County Caven, Ireland,1832;  first settled near Peterborough, Ont.;  married Eliz Rusk, c.1835;  1840 acquired farm near  Tyron, Ont.;  Lot 12, Conc. 7, & S1/2 lot 11, conc. 7, Darlington Twsp., 48 acres;  148 acres for $312.50.

RUSK, Eliza
    emigrated with John McLaughlin, c.1835;  raised 5 children

McLAUGHLIN, Robert [1836-1921]
  
born at Tyrone;  was given 50 acres of the McLaughlin farm on marriage to Mary Smith;  began making axe handles;  produced first cutter, 1867;   moved to Enniskillen, Ont., made sleighs, wagons & carriages;  moved to Oshawa, 1877;  owner of McLaughlin Carriage Works.;  1895 invented at new type of steering wheel known as a fifth wheel;  remarried Sarah Jane Parr;      died at Oshawa, 1921.

McLAUGHLIN, William [c.1844-1904]
   
born at Tyrone;  maintained the McLaughlin farm;  married Ellen Bond;  died 1904

BOND, Ellen [c.1852-1939]
   
born at Emsfield, Ont.;  had 3 sisters: Letitia, Bessie & Ida, 2 brothers: Fred & Amos;  married Wm. McLaughlin;  raised 7 children;  after William's death moved to Oshawa;  active member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church;  died 11 Jun., c.1939;  buried Bomanville Cemetery, Ont..

started the Canada Dry buisness, J.J. McLaughlin Limited, Manufacturing Chemists.   

McLAUGHLIN, George W.
  
one of the two brothers behind the automobile business;  Vice-President and Sales Manage, McLaughlin Motor Works, Oshawa forerunner of General Motors;  at the plant known as "Mr. George";  retired, 1924;  responsible for re-acquiring the original McLaughlin farm.

McLAUGHLIN, Robert Samuel, Col. [1871-1972]
   
born at Enniskillen;  entered father's business at age of 18, 1889;  married Adelaide Mowbray;  "the man behind General Motors, convinced his father and brother George to start manufacturing automobiles;  a great benefactor to the City of Oshawa;  obtained rank of Col. from the Ontario tank Regiment.

McLAUGHLIN, Charlotte (Lottie) Elizabeth [1878-1961]    
   
born at Tyrone Ont.;  daughter of William McLaughlin & Ellen Bond;  first cousin to R. S. (Sam) McLaughlin;  married Milton Werry, 1900;  raised 3 daughters;  long standing member of King St. United Church, Oshawa;  involved with the Women's Temperance Union;  died 27 Mar., 1961 at Toronto;  buried in Bethesda Cemetery.

MCLAUGHLIN, Eileen
    married first William Eric Phillips then Frank McEachern father of Frank McEachern Jr. who married Florence Eaton of The Eaton family
