He was a doctor and he was our father. On Sunday afternoon, June 18, 2000, the heart that had beat for so long and with such compassion, caring and devotion to his family, patients, and friends could no longer sustain him. Loving husband for almost 50 years to Barbara Jean (Bobby) and proud father of Tim, Julie, Donald, David (predeceased 1996) and Ann. Father-in-law of Judy, Joe, Katie, Sharon and Guy. Grandfather of Andrew, Caroline, Tristan, Nicolas, Brittany, Joanna and Will. Born in Toronto in 1918, Phil was a graduate of U.T.S. and the U. of T. Medical School. In 1965, he set up the Nephrology Division of the Hospital for Sick Children which he directed until his retirement, while also teaching as a full professor of Pediatrics at the U. of T. Phil's passion for the outdoors began with camping at Camp Ahmek, where he spent every summer, first as a camper, then as a counsellor. He loved Algonquin Park which he visited throughout his life. He was also an enthusiastic curler, golfer and skier (member of Thornhill Country Club and Caledon Ski Club). A lifelong active member of St. Clement's Anglican Parish.
